   PS Vita încorporează un ecran OLED de 5 inch, multi-touch pe partea frontală şi un pad unic multi-touch pe spate.
   Alături de ecranul tactil frontal şi de padul dorsal, PS Vita oferă experienţe noi de joc, nemaivăzute, permiţând utilizatorilor să interacţioneze cu jocurile, prin mişcările degetelor de "atingere, prindere, urmărire, împingere şi tragere ".
   PS Vita dispune de două stick-uri analog, care permit mai multor tipuri de jocuri să fie aduse la viaţă pe dispozitivul portabil, precum shootere, acţiune şi fighting.
   Aplicaţia pentru PS Vita, "near", preinstalată pe sistem, va permite utilizatorilor să descopere ce jocuri sunt sau au fost recent accesate de utilizatorii PS Vita din apropiere şi le va permite să împărtăşească informaţii despre joc. "near" permite de asemenea funcţii legate de localizare, precum darurile, pe care un utilizator le poate accesa în momentul în care ajunge într-un punct în care alţi utilizatori îşi partajează bunurile. Darurile virtuale pot include conţinut liber din jocuri, precum costume de personaje, arme şi comori. Partajarea acestor lucruri între utilizatori adaugă o dimensiune unică experienţei de joc portabil pe PS Vita, în timp ce sporeşte interactivitatea în comunitatea PS Vita.
   În plus, PS Vita are preinstalată o nouă aplicaţie, numită "Party". "Party" este o aplicaţie inovatoare pentru sistemul de divertisment portabil care permite utilizatorilor să se bucure de chat voce sau text, nu doar în timpul jocului online, ci şi când utilizatorii se joacă jocuri diferite sau folosesc alte aplicaţii decât Internet browser.
